In Gay Poem, Ameer Drane explores the often unspoken realities of gay hookup culture, the racism and fetishization directed toward Black men, the roots of internalized homophobia, the importance of gay men having solidarity with all queer people, and the process of releasing shame to cultivate pride in the era of hookup apps and social media.

Ameer Drane is a poet, writer, and spoken word performance artist from Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA. Now based in Bangkok, Thailand, Ameer is an active member of the city’s poetry scene. He is a regular guest host of the Lyrical Lunacy poetry events and a three-time winner of the Bangkok Poetry Slam. Gay Poem is his debut poetry collection.
